Thank you to everyone who entered Magic of Miles’ annual “12 Days of Giveaways†in December. I enjoyed reading all your comments and entries, some of which were very creative and gave me a good chuckle! Due to an extended trip out of the US, I’ll be fulfilling all prizes in early February upon my return, and will also be sharing some of the winning comments.

Blog Update

I started writing Magic of Miles in early 2014. When I began, I wanted to provide folks with really good hotel reviews based on what I myself would want to read before visiting a property. Passionate about all things travel but sticking with a hotel niche, I added hotel news stories that I found interesting and thought you might too, loyalty program promotions and analysis, trip reports, fun hotel tips, and so on.

Travel news and stories move at the speed of….fast!, however, and I found that I was much s-l-o-w-e-r than most when writing, and agonizing over everything from photo clarity to word choice. I also noticed that I was writing daily about the exact same promotions and deals everyone else was, just to get readers, without me adding any really good insights for you. I’ve long admired bloggers like Summer with Mommy Points, who can turn out a poignant, thought-provoking and delightful read in seemingly little more time than the blink of an eye.

Over the past year, I’ve had a chance to reflect on where Magic of Miles was headed. While I love interacting with readers and sharing on Magic of Miles, I had to face the harsh reality that my articles just weren’t interesting enough to grow the site, and the financial side was not conducive to the large chunk of time I was putting in daily. My family and friends have been incredibly supportive, but a re-evaluation of where my time is best spent was needed.

Bottom line – rather than add more chaff to your daily inbox and the blogosphere, I decided near the end of 2017 to make a change and only provide quality reads albeit much less often.

To kick off 2018, Magic of Miles will be transitioning over to Travel Update on BoardingArea. For those not familiar, Travel Update a multi-author blog with a compilation of articles written by several writers. Don’t worry – you’ll still be able to search for/read all previous articles from Magic of Miles, and I’ll continue to write, although no longer daily (or even weekly). I’ll also be shifting the focus away from promotions and deals, so if you enjoy reading about those I encourage you to read some of the many other wonderful miles & points travel blogs out there.

I hope you continue to pursue your travel dreams and goals. If you have any hotel/travel/destination questions I can help with, as always, drop me a line at magicofmiles@gmail.com.

I am so appreciative of every single person who has stopped by my site to read an article. Passionate about helping you with your travels, I delight in every email and comment I receive that gives me the opportunity to do so. If you’ve found anything helpful, interesting, or fun on Magic of Miles, then the initial goals I set for it back almost 4 years ago have been reached.

Although it would have been ideal to shift over to Travel Update at the very beginning of the New Year, these sorts of projects take a team, and lots and lots of time. I’ll update you once I have more information on the move date and details, so stay tuned!

  2. You are wrong! Your posts had some great insights and were definitely valuable. Your travel patterns seem to match my husband’s and mine so I always looked forward to reading your posts. Your detailed hotel reviews and trip reports were always informative. So I am so sorry to hear that your blog will be ending soon….but it is a bit of consolation that you will be part of Travel Update. I will definitely catch you over there. Thanks for sharing your travels and knowledge thus far.
