SPG’s Hot Escapes have featured a ton of properties on the weekly list recently, with over 200 in the United States alone!

Early this morning I hopped on to the Hot Escapes page to see if this week’s list would be slim or robust, and found …0 properties.

Zero deals? I wondered how that was possible.

SPG changed the format of the Hot Escapes list (for the worse, in my opinion) back in 2015, but I’d never seen the page actually display that there were no properties at all.

Puzzled, I reloaded the page, then tried closing the link and reopening in a different browser. I checked the link, and then figured maybe it was something related to user-error, so I did the usual shut-everything-down-and-start-again routine.

The result was the same. The landing page looked correct, but no properties were featured.

I thought with mild horror, “Oh No! Have they done away with SPG Hot Escapes?” I know that with Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood there are little adjustments being made here and there, but I hadn’t heard anything about these SPG deals going away.

For those new to Hot Escapes, each Wednesday properties are added and can be booked by that Saturday for stays throughout the following six weeks. The list fluctuates a bit with a few properties sometimes added and a few dropping off. SPG members also save an extra 5% off rates and earn points for the stay. The only downside to Hot Escapes reservations is that they are prepaid, and if you cancel or change a fee is involved.

I love SPG Hot Escapes. When a Hot Escapes rate is especially good and I’m trying to decide between that and another hotel chain for specific dates and cities, the Hot Escapes property often wins out because of the lower cost (plus the benefits I receive with Platinum status). Not every property on the “deals” list displays the lowest rate for the property in the last month or even year, but the Hot Escapes list is always worth checking.

Since the Hot Escapes deals go up without fail every Wednesday, it wasn’t that I was simply checking too early. So I poked around a while, trying different links, etc. Thinking that maybe I had looked at the page right when SPG was doing a refresh of the properties, I checked again in a few hours.

I was able to pull up the map but it was blank with no hotel deals. Eventually I was able to get the page to show 15 properties in the US, 7 in Asia, and a handful elsewhere. When I tried to click into the regions to see the properties though, I got a message that the deal wasn’t found. Again and again I tried.

Finally, in the late afternoon I was able to click on all the links and see the properties offered just like it was any other week. There was no “Ah ha!” moment where I realized there was an error on my end, it just seemed to be fixed after a while.

I called SPG and asked if the SPG Hot Escapes deals were going away or if changes were underway. The answer was no, absolutely not, which I was relieved to hear. The agent I spoke with didn’t have any knowledge about any system issues, and suggested that it was probably just my computer.

I was relieved to hear that SPG Hot Escapes are not going away, but I remain a little puzzled. Was the issue on my end? Possibly. Is there anything else going on behind the scenes that I don’t know about? Possibly.

I’ll keep you updated if I hear anything in the future, but hopefully it was just a glitch on my end and no one else will experience any problems pulling up the properties or utilizing the deals.

On that note, here’s a link to this week’s Hot Escapes selections.

They are organized alphabetically by state first, and then properties outside of the US afterwards.
