Nordic Choice Hotels, one of the largest hotel groups in the Nordic region and a franchisee of Choice Hotels International, is turning Copenhagen’s previous Central Post Office into a luxury hotel.

The 100+ year old eye-catching post office is situated smack dab in the middle of the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, next to Tivoli Gardens and Central Station.

Nordic Choice hopes the luxury property will become a destination in itself, as the area around the hotel is also experiencing a revitalization.

There will be new restaurants, shopping, residences, businesses, and the new Nordic Choice property will become central to all the excitement.

With over 25,000 square meters, the hotel plans to have close to 400 guest rooms spread over three floors. The guest rooms are reportedly being designed in a modern style while carefully maintaining and reflecting the unique history of the property by way of artwork and decor.

The hotel will boast five restaurants, a brasserie, wine and cocktail bar, and a wellness center. With lots of food choices in an easy central location, even people not staying as guests in the hotel will find it to be a convenient spot to meet up with others or grab a bite to eat. Around $190 million is being put into the project.

No word yet on what the hotel will be named, but stay tuned for more details.

The new property is slated to open in 2020.

  1. The head of Nordic Choice seems to have a thing for taking old post office buildings and converting them into upper-end hotels (by Scandinavian standards). He did this in Gothenburg already.

There’s also old post office building near Stockholm Central Station that may also make for a good conversion.

I sort of miss these old post office buildings as operational post offices. There was a time when foreign travelers could actually receive their mail
at these post offices when having no fixed address in the country.

At some point, we will see a lot more of this kind of thing happen in the US too, sort of like what Donald Trump did in DC.
