Travelers that frequently pass through San Francisco will be pleased to hear of Hyatt’s official announcement that a Grand Hyatt San Francisco Airport is now in the works.

Currently there’s a Hyatt Regency at San Francisco Airport (you can read my review here ) but it is located about 2 miles from the airport and requires use of a shuttle to get there. It also has 789 guest rooms, a crowded club lounge…and just 26 suites.

The new Grand Hyatt hotel will be located at the entrance to SFO. According to the press release, the property will be accessible via AirTrain so no shuttle will be needed.

Grand Hyatt San Francisco Airport is being designed with an indoor heated pool, whirlpool and sauna. A 24/7 business center and 17,500 square feet of meeting space are planned, and the guest room count will be 350. Restaurants onsite will be full-service and casual, along with a wine and sushi bar. A rooftop cocktail lounge is also planned, which potentially could offer some great views of the runways.

The new addition makes sense, in keeping up with the increased passenger traffic (reportedly 50 million in 2015).

I think airport hotels when done right, are a quiet oasis where you can get a good night’s rest before or between flights. Those that are built connected to the airport are generally the most convenient since you can get there quickly, rather than spending extra time waiting for the dreaded shuttle bus.

Construction is expected to start in fall 2016, and the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Airport is slated to open in 2019.
