SPG Hot Escapes Great Picks for July 22, 2015
Happy Wednesday! The SPG Hot Escapes weekly list is out and here it is, along with some of Magic of Miles’ great picks including one in New York’s Times Square and and a handful of US properties great for mattress runs.
The list this week is again in the old format that SPG used prior to just a few weeks ago when they made a temporary change to the site. I’m very glad, because I just wanted the data rather than a bunch of extra pictures and navigating.
For those who aren’t familiar with Hot Escapes, SPG combined Beat The Timer for Hot Escapes and Starpicks into something called Hot Escapes. Every Wednesday at 6am EST new properties are added and must be booked by that Saturday, for stays during the following six weeks. As an SPG member, you also save an extra 5% and earn points for the stay.
The only downside is that reservations are prepaid, and if you change or cancel a fee is involved.

Do you need some SPG stays to re-qualify for elite status? Here are some hotels with low rates that are prime for a mattress run if you happen to be nearby.
Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center, Durham, North Carolina – $69
Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West, Mesa, Arizona – $68
Aloft Winchester, Winchester, Virginia – $68
Aloft New Orleans Downtown, New Orleans, Louisiana – $68
New York is often an expensive place to stay, especially if you want to be right in Times Square. That’s why the W New York – Times Square at $182 is a great rate, available only for the night of August 30.
THE US GRANT in San Diego is well priced at $182 for a smattering of dates on the calendar.
The Westin Cape Town in South Africa is back on the list this week. The low SPG member rate is $127 for the last week in July and a few days at the end of August. This property usually goes for at least $20 more per night. All of the rooms have floor to ceiling windows, and some have views of Table Mountain.
I’ve stayed at the St Regis Abu Dhabi, and you can find the review here. This week has a great SPG member rate of $137 for just the night of September 1.
The St. Regis Beijing is $168 on the weekends and Sheraton Surabaya Hotel & Towers in Indonesia is $59 for July 31.
Thailand has a bunch of properties this week on the list that offer savings of more than 25% –
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit in Bangkok is $134, Sheraton Samui Resort is $102, Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa is $87, Sheraton Hua Hin Pranburi Villas at $165, and The Naka Island in Phuket is $207.
Vana Belle in Koh Samui is offered at $354 which is more than $50 a night higher than we saw just a month ago.
Sheraton Brussels Hotel isn’t an outstanding property but is worth the $68 a night.
I loved my stay at The Westin Europa & Regina, Venice, and it is offered the 2nd of August at $287. That’s the lowest we’ve seen it since early October in 2014.
For those still needing to book a hotel in Panama, the Aloft Panama is at $76 for a couple weekends.
Four Points by Sheraton Zaporozhye is $46 on the weekends.
