Starwood introduced the Tribute Portfolio hotel brand today, which is their 10th brand. To celebrate the launch, SPG is offering members up to 10,000 bonus points for stays at the new brand through July 15, 2015.

The promotion is set up so that you can receive 2,000 bonus Starpoints for each stay, with a cap of 5 qualifying stays = 10,000 bonus Starpoints.

You must register for the promo by July 15, 2015, which you can do by clicking here. Although the T&C do not state that you must register before staying, if I thought I might try this hotel in the next few months I’d just register now so I didn’t forget later.

Here’s the new Tribute Portfolio website so you can find participating properties.

So far, there is actually just one property – Royal Palm South Beach Miami. The Royal Palm has 393 guest rooms which includes more than 100 suites. There are two swimming pools, a gym, and several restaurants. Only one night is required for it to be considered a “stay” and this sounds like a nice property, but of course if you want all 10,000 bonus Starpoints you’d basically need to stay at the same hotel 5 times by mid-July. Probably not something you’d want to do with rates starting in the mid-$200 range but just one stay earns 2,000 bonus Starpoints.

The thought behind the new Tribute Portfolio brand is easy to see. SPG surveyed members and found that 89% are interested in staying in independent hotels especially for leisure travel and for special occasions. The tagline of the new brand is, “Stay Independent” and the properties will be set in good locations.

The new brand is described as “four star upper upscale”, and will be comprised of independent hotels. Starwood will initially grow the new brand in North America and Europe, and expects to have 100 Tribute Portfolio hotels by 2020.

The next two are set to debut in 2016. Noel Place Hotel in downtown Nashville Tennessee, along with a new build property in Savannah Georgia.

In 2017, the Vandre Nouveau Hotel in Ashville North Carolina will join as a Tribute Portfolio hotel (which was formerly a BB&T Bank building). Another will open in Charleston South Carolina.

In a fun digital campaign called #OurLikes, must-see items and secrets about the properties will be unveiled as hotels are added to the brand. Examples are an off-the-menu cocktail and a hidden corner of a rooftop lounge with stunning sunset views.

Do you like to stay at Independent hotels, or do you stick to chains?
