I have been wanting to stay at the Park Hyatt New York, and I just received an email with details that may coerce me to stay there sooner rather than later.

As a Category 7 property, the Park Hyatt New York requires 30,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for a free night in a regular room. The property has 210 guest rooms, and 92 of them are suites. I haven’t yet been able to find sample dates for regular redemptions using Hyatt Gold Passport points, so it is interesting that the offer I received is a Cash & Points offer for the suites.

Plus with rates in the $650+ range for regular rooms it makes sense to redeem or use a suite upgrade award. This promotion allows you to redeem 30,000 Hyatt Gold Passport Points plus $400 a night for a Park Suite, of which there are 15 at the property.

If you pay an additional $200 per night ($600 total) you’d get the West Side Suite corner unit, which includes butler service. It’s interesting that there are more West Side Suites than Park Suites, 28 vs. 15. The offer for the West Side Suite is where I think the best value is. The corner West Side Suite is considered a specialty suite so even Diamonds doing an upgrade wouldn’t typically be put in that suite.

Reservations must be made over the phone at 800-228-3360 by December 1, 2014 for stays through February 28, 2015.

Checking the random date of January 10, a regular room came to $775.

The 1000+ square foot West Side Suite came to $1625, which meant that for 30,000 Gold Passport points plus a little more cash than a regular room you’d get to stay in a specialty suite. Do you think the offer is worth it?
