Marriott Hotels in the UK asked five thought leaders to imagine their ideal guest room of the future. Now that the designs are completed, they are asking for votes from the public on their favorite elements of the room. I was curious what the imagined guest rooms looked like, and the voting website gives an interesting peek into some concepts for the future.

Thinking like a Millennial, five different perspectives were used when creating the guest rooms. A focus on digital gadgetry, fashion, physical fitness, social media, or food, was creatively relabeled as desirable digerati, fashionista mumpreneurs, competitive challengers, social media savvies, and financial foodie.

A look at hotel room technology from the digital gadgetry side came up with a high tech Japanese toilet which I’m all for, as well as a mind controlled headset which I’m not so sure about. There was also a hover bed and a robotic arm for coffee making.

The social media perspective included a selfie stick and projector.

The coffee machine was represented in all the concept rooms except the competitive challengers ie. those into physical fitness, and it was interesting to see that both the foodie and the fashionista had refrigerators as part of their mock-up.

I was pleased to see that a private pool was included in the layout of both the desirable digerati as well as the competitive challenger.

The voting contest is only open to residents of the UK so I’m not eligible. It was still fun looking at the rooms though.

Here’s a link to see the rooms and vote. One winner will get a four day trip to the new Istanbul Marriott Hotel Sisli in Turkey.

With so many different ideas, I was glad to hear that the winning concept will be built as a showroom in Westfield London from October 27 to November 2, 2014. Which of the imagined concepts do you like for future hotel rooms?
