Last week Royal Caribbean announced that when their new Symphony of the Seas ship debuts in April 2018, it will boast a new type of family suite at sea.

Dubbed the Ultimate Family Suite, the Oasis Class ship’s 1,350 square suite will have two bedrooms and accommodate a maximum of eight guests.

Setting it apart from other family-friendly suites, this one will have a floor-to-ceiling LEGO wall. That sounds really neat, so that families that love to do LEGO together can enjoy the activity on a big scale while watching the waves go by outside. I sure wouldn’t want to be the one chasing those tiny plastic lego pieces around the room, though! Anyone with kids or LEGO knows all too well how easily those bits end up underfoot.

A private movie theatre room will be in the suite, complete with popcorn machine and library of video games.

The split-level suite will have a children’s bedroom on the second story, and the pièce de résistance for tykes is a twisty tube slide that connects the bedroom up top to the living room down on the first level. A slide! How fun for kids.

Other features include an air-hockey table, egg swing chairs, and a 212 square feet wrap around balcony. On the balcony a kid-friendly pool table is planned, along with a climbing feature and big whirlpool for the whole family to take in breathtaking ocean views.

Guests that book the Ultimate Family Suite will receive butler service (called your personal Royal Genie on Royal Caribbean).

The suite is anticipated to be in such hot demand that it will reportedly be bookable only over the phone rather than online. With video games and lego in the suite, it might be tough to prod everyone out the door in port.

Some new culinary features are slated for the Symphony of the Seas ship as well. Hooked Seafood will be Royal Caribbean’s first New England-stye seafood restaurant, which will offer raw oysters shucked to order. Hooked Seafood will be at the front on the ship in the Solarium, with views over the water. An all new open-air El Loco Fresh restaurant with burritos and tacos will be located in the Sports Zone.

The Symphony of the Seas ship will call Miami its homeport, after spending summer of 2018 in the Mediterranean.

    1. Genn, I hadn’t even noticed them until you pointed it out, and your guess is as good as mine. Funny.
No doubt they’re laughing at their good fortune for scoring such an expensive suite.
They’d better keep an eye on the kid in that funky looking play apparatus though; it doesn’t look too sturdy to me.

    1. Cruises definitely aren’t for everyone, Eric.
But, if the idea of a ton of rowdy people all crammed together isn’t your thing, keep in mind that there are good cruising options for folks that just want to have a quiet, relaxing time. Some of the cruise lines have started offering a “ship within a ship” experience which is a bit calmer and more private, like MSC’s Yacht Club, or Norwegian’s Haven. I tried it, and really enjoyed the experience.
