Today is the first day of week 5 in the US Travel Association’s Daily Getaways.
For those not familiar with Daily Getaways, travel deals and packages are offered on a first-come first-served each weekday from April 4, 2016 through May 6, 2016. For a look at previous offers click here.
Today’s deals are for Avis packages –
Avis Chairman’s Club membership for $1,115 (15 packages available)
Avis one-day car rental for $30 (700 packages available)
The packages go on sale at 1pm EST today.
To purchase the deals today, click the individual links above or follow this link to the calendar for the week of May 2, 2016 and select the package you are interested in.
You can purchase a maximum of 1 of the Chairman’s Club memberships, and maximum of 7 of the one-day car rentals.
Here’s a quick look at the packages –
1. Avis Chairman’s Club membership for $1,115 – If you purchase this package, within 10 business days Avis will email you the Chairman’s Club application, which must be returned to Avis in order to activate the membership. From the time you return the application it will take up to 10 business days to process. Membership is good for one year from the activation date.
Avis Chairman’s Club is hassle-free, and you don’t have to take the dreaded airport shuttle to get to the lot. With a process that is much like Silvercar has, when you arrive at the airport, an Avis rep meets you right at the terminal and gets you into your car. For returns, the process is just as easy where you go straight to the departure terminal.
As a Chairman’s Club member, you also get complimentary upgrades to the best car available when booking an intermediate sized car or above (Signature Series excluded) and guaranteed vehicle availability. One of the neatest features is that if you are at an office or even your home, as long as it is within 25 miles of an Avis location they’ll bring the car to you.
Note that only US residents age 25 or older can be members, and only spouses or life partners (rather than co-workers or family members) are allowed to pick up the vehicle in the member’s name.
2. Avis one-day car rental for $30 – if you purchase this deal your certificate will be mailed to you within 10 business days, so if you need a rental in a hurry this is not the way to go. Cars up to the Premium selection are ok, but the certificate cannot be used for a Specialty vehicle.
Their T&C says that the car must be returned to the renting location, so it seems that you cannot use the certificates for one-way rentals, which is a huge drawback. It’s nice that the expiration of the certificates isn’t until May 31, 2017 so you have a while to use them though. Note that there are blackout periods, but they aren’t listed so it is possible that if you want to use it during a popular holiday it may be excluded. You also don’t get taxes or fees or customer facility charges included, so those are still your responsibility.
While it says they certificates can be used at any participating Avis locations in the U.S., it includes the disclaimer that it “(excludes the New York Metro area), Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.”
Some readers may find great value in these certificates, but I’ll be passing.
