Hotels Filling up Fast for National Championship Game in Phoenix

If you’re planning on a trip to Arizona to see the Crimson Tide in the National Championships, you might want to book your hotel now. Even though most of the hotels in the desirable Glendale area right around the stadium are already showing full, such as the Residence Inn Phoenix Glendale Sports & Entertainment District hotel, Staybridge Suites Phoenix-Glendale, and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Phoenix-Glendale, you can still beat the crowd and get a room reasonably close to the action.

For those unfamiliar, the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship is the national championship game of the 2015 college football season, scheduled to take place on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. (ET). The teams playing will be the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

There’s a Super 8 Motel right in Glendale available for the night of January 11, 2016 for the rate of $63 on Booking.com.

If you turned your nose up immediately after hearing “Super 8”, here are a few more hotels. Using the dates of January 10-12, 2016 on Hilton’s website, the Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix North Happy Valley came up as available.

Doing a quick search on Marriott’s website for the dates of January 9-11th, 2016 most hotels came up unavailable but there were still some with rooms. The Courtyard Phoenix North is just 5 miles away from Glendale, and is a reasonable option at $199 a night (or 20,000 Marriott Rewards points if you have a bunch to burn). Of course, the game is on the 11th so if planning to stay that night, the closest Marriott option came back as the Fairfield Inn Scottsdale North for $289 a night.

There is a Hyatt Regency in Phoenix, but at the steep rate of $381 (and not available on points) you might be better off at a different property.

Playing around with the dates, I found that some of the Glendale properties offered rooms as long as you stayed a minimum of three nights and chose a nonrefundable option.

If I was going to the game, I’d choose a property in Phoenix and just brave the traffic. If not concerned about hotel elite status, Rocketmiles is offering the reasonably well-located Candlewood Suites in Phoenix for $118 a night plus 1000 AAdvantage miles.

Are you going to the big game? If so, where will you be staying?

I know we are a little more then a month away, but any tips for SB50 Hotels? I have been following the inventory since August for both SPG and Hyatt. Very little available outside of SFO area. Do you think more will open up? Or already bought out by large corporations?

I’ll be there. Found sAAver availability a few weeks ago. Taking the red eye back to be at work Tuesday morning. Staying at s friends hotel, crashing on the floor. Thinking of changing my flight to Friday evening to spend 2 days exploring the city. Game ticket was $550 face!

Ya I booked my flights back in August but it was still painful to get there relatively cheaply. Got reservations at the French laundry the day after and spending some time in Napa afterwards. Your company score some face value tickets?
