Last year Hyatt opened two all-inclusive resorts, the family friendly Hyatt Ziva and adults-only Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall in Jamaica.

Then came the all-inclusive Hyatt Zilara Cancun which is adults-only.

This week the family-friendly all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva Cancun opened, in Punta Cancun. Formerly known as Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa, the property underwent a big $85 million renovation & expansion before re-opening as a Hyatt.

To celebrate the opening, the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun is kicking things off with special 50% off rates. All bookings must be made by January 20, 2016 but you get almost a year to enjoy their grand opening sale since stays don’t need to be completed until November 11, 2016.

The resort design reflects the Mexican Yucatan culture, and includes Mayan materials and themes.  Dining options onsite include an Italian restaurant, Asian restaurant, Microbrewery, American diner and gourmet buffet.

The resort has an adults-only pool, swim-up bars, fitness center, spa, and KidZ Club.

Selecting a standard room for the random dates of December 11-13, 2015 the rate for their lowest category (at 483 square feet) Standard King or Double bed room was $362, with the Club Ocean Front Corner Suite (at 1087 square feet) topping out at $732 a night.

Looking at rates in Jan-March the rate seemed to climb up in the $500 range for random dates I chose, but then starting in April it dipped down to $416 and stayed there for several months.

I then tried just one random date, December 11, 2015 and the rate of $362 held.

This confirmed my hunch that unlike the grand opening promotion for the Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall and Hyatt Ziva in Jamaica which required a minimum of 3 nights to take advantage of the promotion, the Hyatt Ziva Cancun 50% off rate appears to have no minimum stay requirement.

The T&C do note one exception to the minimum stay requirements – the holiday dates of December 27 – 31, 2015 require a minimum of 5 nights.

Rates are based on double-occupancy though, something that solo travelers should note.

Interestingly, even though the T&C says double occupancy when I selected just 1 adult the price dropped to $290.

You might have a different experience, but it let me complete the reservation with just one person at the lower rate.

  1. We were in Cancun at the beginning of October and the water was absolutely perfect.

Not sure if the water is still perfect or not, but we went for Fall Break and loved it.

  2. Isn’t Cancun (and other parts of the Caribbean) having a lot of seaweed problems? Not sure if I want to go when you’re expecting pristine water and white sand, and get normal-smelly beaches. Anyone been lately?
