Back in 2014 Hyatt started offering Cash & Points rates, where you could combine Gold Passport points and cash for an award reservation that used less Gold Passport points than a standard award redemption. One of the best parts was that the reservation still earned points and counted as a paid stay so it was great for times when you wanted a stay credit to go towards elite status requalification.

Last month I lamented the fact that Hyatt Cash & Points rates are a great option but not always easy to book. Instead of seeing real-time availability online you had to call in to the Gold Passport line and have them do a search for you. We had gotten great news though that Hyatt was going to increase transparency and allow online cash & points bookings, but didn’t know when it would be available.

Today, View from the Wing has reported that the highly anticipated new feature is now live!

Here’s Hyatt’s Cash & Points chart as a refresher –

Hyatt properties are not required to offer Cash & Points rates, though most do. This new transparency will help us figure out which hotels offer it and which do not, so we don’t spin our wheels hoping for an available date when there are none.

This new feature also saves time. It is much easier to check a property for dates myself rather than having to call in to Gold Passport and have someone else check for me.

Doing a quick search on Hyatt’s website, it looks like the Cash & Points rates are starting to show up.

The Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi shows the new tab when doing a search with random dates –

The Grand Hyatt in San Francisco does not yet show the new feature –

Nor does the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome –

I figure that the new feature will extend to all properties over the coming weeks/months.

Per One Mile at a Time, there are also two other great new options available that previously weren’t. You can now cancel an award booking online, and you can use points to upgrade to a Club room type (both of which you previously had to do over the phone).

Once the Cash & Points functionality is on Hyatt’s website for all properties I can’t wait to start searching to get an idea of which hotels have that option.

Are you excited about these changes?

  1. IMO its not that San Fran and Paris don’t show the new feature, C&P just aint available on those dates or possibly ever. Almost certain.

    1. Andy I think you’re correct. I’ve had my eye on the Paris property for a while and have made several phone calls to inquire about C&P availability for dates. I’ve never gotten a thumbs up for any of my dates. It could be that I just chose popular dates, but I’ll be glad to be able to get a bird’s eye view online now.

    1. I agree Elena-MuslimTravelGirl, the Hyatt GP folks are nice but I always cringed when I had to call and call again! This just makes it easier on both sides.
