Starting today June 4, 2015, all Hilton properties worldwide will offer free Wifi to Hilton HHonors members that book directly via the hotel chain. This is a welcome development, as Hilton joins the ranks of many other big hotel chains like Marriott and Taj in offering free wifi. As of today, Hilton has updated their Terms & Conditions with the details.

Blue, Silver and Gold members will receive free standard lobby and in-room wifi when booking through one of Hilton’s channels like HHonors.com, calling their 1-800 number, or using their app. This means that third party website bookings will not qualify. If you’re not a member of HHonors and want to sign up, you can do so by clicking here.

Diamond members will receive premium internet, which is currently available in the US and will be an option in other countries later this year.

Ironically, I’m at a Hilton as I write this and because I let my elite status dip down to Gold, I don’t qualify for the free premium internet. The connection using standard wifi is slooowww, and I figure this will become more common in hotels as more people are given free wifi. Overall though, I think free wifi for everyone is great and it is long overdue for hotels to offer it to guests.
