Luxuriously soft sheets make a hotel bed dreamy, and at the end of a long day it is great to sink back into a marshmallow cloud. The Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center already donates some of their premium linens to local homeless shelters but lately, they’ve also given bedding away to enrich the lives of some very special creatures.
The Lincoln Park Zoo is home to some western lowland gorillas, and the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center has started providing super-soft 250 thread count bedding for use by the Zoo’s Regenstein Center for African Apes. A gorilla mom named Bahati uses the linens as nesting material until her two-month-old daughter Bella is old enough to make her own nest. Two toddler gorillas named Nayembi and Patty also romp and play in the blankets, which keep them busy and entertained.
When the toddlers get tired they can cozy up in the soft bedding and take a nap, and the primates seem to enjoy the linens just as much as hotel guests.
Nathan Karsten, Director of Sales & Marketing at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center said, “We’re committed to operating a sustainable business and supporting the greater good of the whole community.”
Sounds like this is a win-win idea, and I just love hearing stories like this!
