Hotel Review: Penha Longa Executive Suite

Just as I had hoped, after returning from a day out the front desk staff at the Penha Longa had a new key for an Executive Suite!

A hostess walked us to the new room which was still on the first floor, but instead of being down the left corridor at the fork it was all the way down the hall to the right, and then around the corner.

Here’s the floorplan, but the dot is in the wrong place. The room was actually in the corner, separated away from the other rooms.

When first walking into the suite, there was a small foyer.

To the right was a half bath powder room.

Straight head was the sitting room which was just amazing. There was a comfy couch, armchair and a couple tables. Big windows let in plenty of natural light, and the color palette was calming.

A couple of convenient outlets near the lamp caught my eye.

There was a TV that didn’t take up any room because it was smartly affixed to the wall.

The sitting room curved around to another room that had a desk.

The desk was decorated with some orchids, and had artwork on the wall.

There were more chairs across from the desks, with more outlets below. In fact, the suite had outlets galore. Each room had several so ther was no need to hunt for them.  The temperature in the room was great but there was a thermostat on the wall in case I wanted to make an adjustment.

A minibar was in the corner of the room, and held assorted drinks.

Cups and saucers were provided.

The coffee and tea station sat on top of the cabinet.

The bathroom was huge, and had everything you could want.

Two sinks, plenty of mirrors and counter space.

This shower also required a step up, but since the stall was built into the wall it didn’t feel up high like in the other room.

The toilet room also had a bidet, and sliding door to separate between them from the rest of the bathroom.

The amenities were by Bulgari and even included lip balm, hand lotion and a men’s aftershave balm.

The closet had been designed so the clothing could be put away for a longer stay, with drawers and plenty of drawers.

The bedroom was beautiful. A side window overlooked the resort and hills.

The bed looked lovely but oddly didn’t feel quite as comfortable as the one in the previous room. Not sure if it was an older mattress or if I had simply just been more tired the first night after a long day of travel. There was also a slight damp musty smell, perhaps because the room was part of the hill.

This bed also had super soft sheets and plenty of pillows to choose from.

There was a large slim TV in the corner, at just the right height for watching in bed.

One day it was raining and I walked into the bedroom after breakfast to get some items before heading out of the hotel for the day. I noticed that a member of the staff had thoughtfully hung an umbrella on the rack for my use.

When it was time to close the curtains, there were large easy to pull metal rods. I discovered they were also noisy when I tried to open them quietly in the morning and they clanged into the wall.

Both the living room and bedroom had glass doors that led out onto a private patio.

The patio had a sun lounger,  some casual chairs and a table which would be perfect during the lazy days of summer.

From the patio there were gorgeous views too, of the resort’s pools and surrounding areas. The pool directly in front was the adults only pool, which had just recently been completely redone.

The general pool and hot tub were a little bit further away.

I loved how there was plenty of light.

There was a clear view to the monastery as well.

The view from the other side was of the hillside. I could see far into the distance, and watched the trees swaying in the wind.

One morning, a momma cat and three kittens were spotted just outside our window. They romped and played in the bushes, which was very entertaining to watch. After a few minutes, they bounded off down the hillside.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the hotel with such beautiful views, the room had an incredibly serene feeling. It almost felt like a private villa. I didn’t hear a peep from any other rooms while in this suite. I really enjoyed this hotel stay and would love to return to this property.
