Japanese Hotel Staffed by Robots?
CNN had an interesting article today about a hotel opening in Japan this summer that will be staffed by robots. According to the article, three robots will act as receptionists, four will be porters, and still others will have smaller tasks. There will be other quirks at the hotel too, that I have not heard about before.
Located inside of theme park Huis Ten Bosch, the The Henn-na Hotel (Henn-na translating into Strange) may seem just that. The catchphrase on their website though is “a commitment for evolution”.
Guest rooms will reportedly be unlocked by using facial recognition, and solar panels will help keep costs down.
The room pictures from the website look good.
The hotel will not have typical air conditioning though. Supposedly, a radiation panel in the room will detect body heat and adjust the temperature accordingly. I’m skeptical about this feature and have way more questions than I suppose the hotel’s website discusses at this time. If any Magic of Miles’ readers speak Japanese and understand the radiation panel feature please leave a comment or send me an email. I’m curious if the temperature can be controlled manually as well for those who prefer a warmer or cooler temperature? What about when guests leave the room, is there is way to override so you can come back from dinner and already have the room a set temperature?

Rather than having set prices, guests will bid for rooms with starting prices that will fluctuate based on seasonal demand. Special opening bidding starting prices are $60 for a single room and a triple room rate at $153.
