If you haven’t used PointsHound before and you’re a member of American Airlines’ AAdvantage program, now would be a great time to try it out. They’re offering 100 bonus miles just for joining, and 2,000 bonus miles when booking a stay by March 31, 2015. That’s on top of the bonus miles you’ll earn per night that PointsHound already offers.

When I clicked the link in the email received I was taken to a page that gave me the chance to sign up if I was a new member, by clicking on the top tab.

Here’s a link to sign up for PointsHound. Once you click the link, wait a few seconds for the top tab to appear and then click there.

Below the signup area it mentioned that first bookings would earn an additional 2,000 bonus AAdvantage miles for making a first booking.

Using a sample date of January 19, 2015 I used Hilton’s website to find a room at the Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus. The best available rate was 395 TRY (170 USD), AAA came to 375 TRY (161 USD) , and advanced purchase was TRY 370 (159 USD).

Using PointsHound for the same date, it came out to only $151, but also included 2,400 AAdvantage miles PLUS the 2,000 signup bonus AA miles.

Here’s another example. I just wrote about SPG’s Hot Escapes deals for this week, which you can find here. One of the good picks was the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport hotel which had a member rate of just $122 for tomorrow night, January 8, 2015.

I found an even lower rate on PointsHound, for $120. If I wanted to earn American miles on the booking, I’d earn 2,300 AAdvantage Miles for the booking.

Note that you can earn the 2,100 bonus just once (since you can only be a new member once).

PointsHound is a good hotel booking site. Usually hotel stays booked through them will not count towards elite status in a hotel program, but if you are looking to earn some extra miles or points for a hotel stay where you don’t need the stay credit it is a great place to book.

  1. Lol you are very confused,

You are not earning 4,400 miles on that stay, you are earning a TOTAL with new member bonus, 2,400 AA miles.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.
