Hilton opened a hotel in the capital city of Burma today, called Hilton Nay Pyi Taw. To kick off the launch, Hilton is offering 1,000 bonus HHonors points per night up to a total of 5,000 bonus points per stay. Stays must be between November 24, 2014 and March 31, 2015.

As a launch special, Hilton’s website shows their bonus points offer –

The new Category 6 property is situated on over 100 acres of land and has 202 rooms as well as an Executive Lounge. It is 30 minutes away from the Nay Pyi Taw Airport which I had to look up since I’d only flown into Yangon before. Nay Pyi Taw is about 4 hours north of Yangon, near Uppatasanti Pagoda and the hotel is close to Ruby Hall where the East Asia Summit (ASEAN) in November will be held.

The Hilton Nay Pyi Taw has 3 different restaurants, along with 24 hour room service. The Elements is their all-day dining restaurant, The Axis Lounge is in the lobby and Boardwalk is the hotel’s poolside restaurant and bar.

It looks like their spa and tennis courts are not yet open, but I went on their website to test out some pricing. I chose the random date of December 10 for one night, and saw that the best available rate came to $200. I didn’t see the 1,000 bonus point offer.

I tried other dates, but couldn’t find the 1,000 bonus point per night offer anywhere and thought maybe I’d misunderstood. Re-reading the Terms & Conditions I saw that it said the bonus was only good for stays and bookings made during the promotional period of November 24, 2014 through March 31, 2015.

Figuring the booking date was a mistake since they opened their doors today I contacted someone at HHonors. The first person I spoke with gave a long pause after my question, and then carefully asked, “What state is Burma in?” When I said it was the country of Myanmar she thought I meant Maryland.

Finally a supervisor confirmed for me that indeed the promotion is only good during those booking dates which seems odd but since it is only 1,000 bonus points per night, not a big deal.

Here’s a booking link.
