I took the free shuttle from Tampa Airport to the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, and waited for just two people before it was my turn at check-in. The friendly hostess asked if I preferred a view of the airport or the bay, and I chose the airport. She said I’d actually be able to see a bit of the water from the room as well, which sounded great. Soon I was handed a key for a View Room and was on my way.

Entering the 350 square foot room, it felt larger than it was thanks to a good layout.

Entryway

The bathroom had plenty of counter space, and a backlit mirror.

Sink

The wallpaper design was interesting without being too wacky.

Toilet

June Jacobs products were featured.

The shower head was good, as was the water pressure. I liked that the slats of the toiletries holder weren’t so big as to allow things to slip through.

The entryway held a coffee maker and lamp.

Underneath was a refrigerator with a thoughtful sign to remind people that just because you don’t hear it running doesn’t mean it isn’t working!

Fridge

The desk was designed so that a vase was just above it, without taking up space.

Desk

The outlets were conveniently located for electronics charging.

The air conditioning was well placed so it didn’t blast out over the top of the bed, and I liked the corner chair that could be turned to look out the window.

Bedroom

Feeling famished after a flight, I ordered some room service while I unpacked.

I had the Vegetable and Quinoa wrap, which was delicious.

The room was comfortable to relax in for the evening.

Room from window

There were plenty of pillows (and I took this picture after removing a couple of the decorative ones). I fell asleep quickly when it was time for bed, and found that the room was quiet even with 442 rooms at the property.

Bed

In the morning I took a look out the window. The view of the airport was good, but I think if I stayed here again I’d prefer the bay view.

view 3

Just as the hostess had said, I could see a bit of water on one side.

Breakfast was served in the Grand Club on the 12th floor. I was in a hurry to try some of the nature paths so I just grabbed a quick plate of fruit, but there was a pretty good selection of items in the club to choose from.

I decided to try and find the gazebo and trails that I could see from the hotel.

Along the way I came across the pool which was deserted. Since the hotel is not within walking distance to anything notable, I’m sure many guests had driven somewhere for the day which left the pool quiet.

At the rear of the property were the nature trails. I followed easy signs that led around the wildlife estuary.

The trees made an arch overhead.

I found the gazebo which was a quiet spot, but the bushes were a bit high to enjoy the view properly. I decided to go down one of the other paths instead.

Along the way there were occasional signs that offered information about the wildlife.

The meandering path could also be used for jogging.

As I walked down the path, tiny crabs scuttled to the sides.

Off to the side of the path I could see the bay and a great place to sit.

At the end of the dock were two chairs.

No one was around, but there were plenty of birds and fish.

I felt miles away from the city.

Here’s a view looking back.

What a tranquil spot!

This was a really good hotel stay. The staff was warm and friendly, the room was comfortable, and the nature paths and view from the dock were outstanding.
