The upscale Buckhead area of Atlanta is filled with restaurants and shops, and is the third largest business district in Atlanta. The term “Buckhead” comes from when land owner Henry Irby (who purchased 202 acres of land in the early 1800’s) killed a large buck deer and displayed the trophy head somewhere prominent.

I was in town for a night, and just reserved a basic room at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead. After picking up a rental car at the airport and arriving at the hotel, I was pleased to find that I had been upgraded to a Concierge level room.

This property has a total of 371 rooms, with only 4 suites. The Executive rooms that have access to the lounge are on floors 23 – 25. Since I had an early departure I would have to miss out on breakfast anyhow, so I was happy with a room on the 15th floor. It was not near the elevators either, which was a plus.

The room had cheery lemon yellow walls, and six pillows of differing types and thicknesses to choose from on the bed (not counting the small roll).

Next to the bedside phone was a small sign that said, “On any suggestions to make your stay more enjoyable, please speak directly with our manager on duty. Press “O” on your phone. We guarantee immediate action before you leave the hotel.” Even though I didn’t have any issues during my stay, I appreciated their proactive reassurance that someone was there to take care of it, and the confident language certainly got my stamp of approval.

On a small table near the window there were two complimentary bottles of water and a coffee maker.

The view from the windows was quite good.

The bathroom had good counter space, though no hand towels near the sink.

The amenities were by Nirvae botanicals.

There was a curved shower rod, and shower/tub combo.

I did not care for the shower setup, since no matter how hot you made the water a vent directly above the shower head blasted cold air down simultaneously.

There was a nice robe waiting for afterwards though.

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and I slept well. The view was good and the location was close to where I needed to be. I thought the pricing for self-park was too high though.
