Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort is on sale from now through December 20, 2014 with the lowest price at $169 a night.

Looking at their price calendar for availability, the rates are between $219 and $319 until September 13. The price dips down to $199 a night for the nights of September 13 through the 17th. October 15th is the first time the $169 rate is available, and December is the best time to find multiple nights at the $169 rate.

When perusing the dates, I found that the resort is undergoing construction.

Which led me to an even better promotion, the “We are Building” rates. Starting September 14, 2014 the resort is offering special pricing for rooms that have a construction view. The prices were quite a bit lower.

Work is only scheduled to go on between 9am and 5pm during weekdays which sounds fair enough. However, I’ve been in many hotels where I’ve called down to reception after hearing hammering to be given reassurance that work would end by a certain time but hours later the work was still going on.

According to the rate terms, no room changes are allowed either, so if you booked one of those rooms and then decided the view of construction materials wasn’t for you then you wouldn’t be able to move.

No hope for a room upgrade either, as it also says that no Hilton HHonors upgrades will be given to those who book these rates.

Tempting though, as a lower rate could mean that you could book an Ocean View Room for cheaper than the basic room at the best available rate. No promises that the view doesn’t include scaffolding though!

The average difference between the construction rate and the fall promotional rate is about $40. For me, the possibility of extra noise wouldn’t be worth it to pay the cheaper price. For some though, this might be a good opportunity. Would you book a room at a reduced construction rate?

I’d be grateful if you’d follow me on Twitter!

  1. Hmm I think it would depend on what the trip was for but I wouldn’t rule it our. Years ago I got a super cheap room on hotwire and it turned out to be right next to housekeeping and some machinery and super loud but it worked out okay…
